Tell us a little about yourself

Born and raised in Kalamazoo Michigan. My BS and MS Degree from Western Michigan University, I am a Geologist, who has worked in oil and gas the past 12 years. By passion, I became a personal trainer, nutrition coach, and competition coach since 2016. Formed Boss Girls Brand with a Competition Team training focus in addition to health and lifestyle coaching with Lauren Austin in 2017.

How did you get started with bodybuilding?

With CrossFit! I started building muscle in 2014 and getting shredded with CrossFit and fell in love with weightlifting and HIIT training as well as the community. My muscle definition started getting attention and during a Whole 30 Challenge in 2014, I decided that I would investigate Natural Bodybuilding coaches since I was giving up processed foods and alcohol, and ended up finding and working with Dewayne Malone in Houston, who helped me develop my foundation and passion for Bodybuilding. After winning Figure Novice Overall at Texas State Naturals, my first competition, I fell in love with the sport. I went on to compete at Fitness America Weekend in Vegas, did not place (I was way too small!!), and it gave me the fuel to work on building my body to become a stronger Figure Athlete and Competitor. I spent a year building, and came back to claim my NFF Pro Card at the 2015 Texas State Naturals. The rest is history

Where does your motivation come from?

The desire to be my best, push myself, and inspire others to become more confident, stronger, and reach their goals. I really want to see where I can take my physique and how far mentally I can push myself…my internal drive is to prove to myself I can be everything I dream of and when I inspire or motivate even one person, it gives me more fire to push myself further.

What are some of your greatest achievements?

NFF and GBO Pro Status, Overcoming several life challenges, Gaining Self Confidence after ‘dealing’ with myself being born with a cleft lip and feeling deformed for many years, being comfortable in my own skin and ‘riding solo’ and enjoying the ride!

What is your current training philosophy?

Train smart. Make sure nutrition supports activity. Consistency. Progressive overload. Pushing myself to be stronger, lift heavier or add more reps, pushing my cardiovascular endurance.

What are 3 tips you would give to someone trying to reach their goal physique?

Train smart not hard – let your nutrition throughout the day support your training splits. Keep in mind that you are eating for purpose and that you won’t be eating that way forever, but you will see yourself making lifestyle changes as you decide to become an athlete vs. a one time competitor. Become friends with your peers and fellow competitors – you will learn from each other and support each other’s growth…and it will also make you enjoy the sport that much more when you feel like you are not alone.

What is your diet like? And does it differ on-season vs. off-season?

I tend to eat clean and the same foods on and off season. However, if I decide to do more powerlifting, then I change my calories to be in 300-500 surplus to put those weights to building mass. Ever year changes as I become more committed. My wine and popcorn nights have turned into BCAA blended iced drinks and early bedtimes!

When trying to cut down what type of cardio do you do and why?

I bought a spin bike for my loft that I can jump out of bed and on for fasted cardio in the morning while watching the news while listening to new music playlists – I like to do 1 minute of High Resistance followed by 1 minute of Low Resistance to keep my HR at 135 BPM. I also use a treadmill and do incline jogging and walking at 135 bpm. Stairmill on level 8-12 at the gym at steady state 135 BPM. Jogging at 135 BPM Heart Rate for 30-45 minutes 1-2 times per week because I LOVE the outdoors and the Buffalo Bayou in Houston (though I know running is a poor option for impact and muscle separation). What I REALLY love though is HIIT workouts with Ski Erg, Rower, Ropes, Slam Balls, Pull-Ups, Olympic lifts, kettle bells, box jumps, push-ups…love any combo!

What is your next goal?

My big goal is to dial in my legs and figure out how to get and keep them dialed in better. Additionally, I have a goal of developing an even better off season plan and start integrating small goals – such as the 2020 Houston Half Marathon with my fellow gym staff and members. On season, I want to bring a more conditioned body to the stage each time and continue to build and shape my figure. Besides physical goals, I want to give back more as a Pro to the athletes and the organizations/federations. One of those ways may be promoting a natural show in the Houston Heights in 2020, so stay tuned!

What’s your favorite quote?

“The mind is the limit. As long as the mind can envision the fact that you can do something, you can do it, as long as you really believe 100%.” Arnold Schwarzenegger
