Tell us a little about yourself….
When I was a kid I would watch my dad workout at Gold’s gym in Houston with the big guys and I always wanted to workout with them and have muscles like them! As a very small female everyone wanted me to be a cheerleader or do very girly activities and I wanted to be different and prove that I could be more than that.
How did you get started with bodybuilding?
I started out powerlifting in high school, making it to the state championship. Upon graduating I spent many years in and out of the gym weight lifting and after our wedding I became very unhealthy and needed a change. I started working out for a year and a half I lost a lot of weight (25 lbs) and developed musculature but hit a plateau. I decided to hire a coach and started seeing results so I decided to compete for the first time in August 2020.
Where does your motivation come from?
My motivation comes from seeing how far I’ve come in my fitness journey and wanting to get better every day. Also the mental health improvements that I’ve experienced since beginning bodybuilding.
What are some of your greatest achievements?
Making it to state in high school powerlifting, overcoming an anxiety disorder and being overweight to placing at a bodybuilding show and of course earning my pro card in my first NFF show.
What is your current training philosophy?
Make every lift, set, and workout count because someone else out there is working hard too and I want to be the hardest worker in the room.
What are 3 tips you would give to someone trying to reach their goal physique?
Be patient because change doesn’t happen overnight and muscle doesn’t just appear one day. Create a goal, set a date and write it down. Lastly, stay focused. When you get in the gym, stay off your phone and remember why you are there. Remember what your goal is and do what you need to do to make it happen.
What is your diet like? And does it differ on-season v. off-season?
I’m 100% strict on-season, no bites or sips of anything coach doesn’t put into my meal plan (chicken, broccoli, rice, egg whites). Off season there is more flexibility but I will keep it 90% clean and on plan.
When trying to cut down what type of cardio do you do and why?
Stair master, I hated it at first and barely lasted 8 minutes the first time on it, but now I like the rhythm and how many calories I burn during a session.
What is your next goal?
To compete in a pro show! I’m also currently working to become NASM certified as a personal trainer.
