Tell us a little about yourself….
I am a mom of 2 boys, wife to a firefighter and owner of Feisty Fox Fitness and Fox Den Fit Club. As a personal trainer and nutritionist, I love working with people, particularly women, to blossom into the best version of themselves physically, mentally, and emotionally. I call myself an optimistic realist. I am all about thinking positive about what you want, acknowledging your obstacles, and taking action.
Fun side note, while I have little time for extra hobbies these days, I’ve painted murals and decorated cakes on the side for many years!
How did you get started with bodybuilding?
I had lifted weights for several years, working on building a balanced physique. People asked me if I would ever compete but I had only heard all the unhealthy things people do to get on stage, so I had no interest for a long time. As a trainer and nutritionist, I started to believe there’s no way I couldn’t do this with a healthful approach if I give myself time and strategize! It then became a challenge to accomplish post-partum. I competed in my first show the same week my first son turned 1. With my second son, I beat my record and competed at 9 months post partum. I’m very proud of pushing myself for those shows and continuing my passion for the sport thereafter.
Where does your motivation come from?
When my dad passed away of heart issues in 2013, a fire lit under me to step my health and fitness efforts up a notch. I became a personal trainer passionate about helping people make long term changes to improve longevity and quality of life. I’ve been through my own personal and health issues over the years and am always driven by the fact that we can’t change the cards we are dealt (genetics, health issues, other life stuff) but we can work with the cards we have in our hand. We all have our stuff, but it’s what we do with our many blessings that makes all the difference. I am thankful for each day I wake up breathing. I enjoy pushing my body for improvement and I love it for what it has done and continues to do for me. I cherish being able to be active with my kiddos and instill in them healthy habits!
What are some of your greatest achievements?
I’m proud of the man I married, the children we have together, and the career that I have built empowering women to be better versions of themselves.
What is your current training philosophy?
Figure out your why. Why you want to exercise and/or watch what you eat. Let that drive you to make sustainable habit changes that will carry you with health and fitness far into the future. Even a mediocre workout is better than no workout, so push yours.
What are 3 tips you would give to someone trying to reach their goal physique?
Never lose sight of your WHY (health, motility, etc)- that’s what keeps you pushing on the days you’re not feeling it.
Always keep in mind the physique you want for yourself and give yourself grace- coach & judge feedback is great but don’t let competition overrule your preferences in your physique. It should be a showcase of a body you’re proud of and love far into the future.
Don’t be afraid to lift with intensity- women are often afraid to get too big, but you won’t wake up accidentally looking like Arnold. Muscle gain takes time (especially when you’re natural) and certainly isn’t easy!
What is your diet like? And does it differ on-season v. off-season?
I’m a huge advocate for calorie/macro tracking. Knowing your caloric budget allows you to set goals and approach nutrition like math! It’s empowering to be able to eat food as fuel with mindful indulgence, rather than to completely restrict things you enjoy. Year round, our family keeps things pretty basic making sure we get in protein and plenty of vegetables! I love some extra peanut butter and kettle corn more than anything in my off-season!
When trying to cut down what type of cardio do you do and why?
I like to do HIIT. I enjoy the fun moves that most trainers are told are torture. Stair climber is my go-to for steady state cardio. It’s easier on my body than running and I’m able to get a lot of work done!
What is your next goal?
I am excited to grow with NFF and bring competitors to the stage! Many of my clients are super motivated by the platform to showcase their natural physique.
Of course, hopefully competing as a pro will allow me to fund this hobby with my winnings!
