NFF member athletes, both amateur and professional, may be subject to drug testing at each NFF sanctioned contest in which he/she is to participate. Urine testing will be conducted on all NFF pro qualifying and all professional division athletes earning a monetary prize. Amateur and professional athletes may be subject to random drug testing at an event even if they do not meet the pro qualifying or monetary prize criteria stated above. All amateur and professional athletes may also be subjected to out-of-competition random testing to ensure adherence to the drug policy during off-season periods. The NFF has implemented strict qualifying standards for testing and retesting procedures regarding drug use and athlete participation based on the following criteria: All NFF athlete members must be free of all illegal performance-enhancing drugs for at least 7 years. The NFF uses WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) as a comprehensive list of all banned substances, their use constitutes grounds for dismissal from all NFF competitions and suspension from membership in the organization for up to 7 years. 7-Year Clean Requirement: All NFF athletes must be drug-free from performance-enhancing substances for at least 7 years.
- WADA Banned List: The NFF follows the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) list of banned substances. Use of any substance on this list results in:
- Dismissal from NFF competitions.
- Up to a 7-year suspension from NFF membership.
- Testosterone/Epitestosterone (T/E) Ratio:
- A T/E ratio exceeding 6/1 is a positive test, regardless of the cause.
- Banned Substances Include:
- FDA-banned substances and illegal drugs used for athletic purposes.
- Prescription diuretics and weight-loss drugs (e.g., Fen-phen) used for bodybuilding.
- Psychomotor stimulants (e.g., ephedrine, amphetamines).
- Clenbuterol, GHB, DNP.
- Growth hormones (HGH, HCG).
- Hormone antagonists and modulators (aromatase inhibitors, SERMs, SARMs, etc.).
- Over-the-Counter (OTC) Supplements:
- Athletes are responsible for researching OTC supplements. Even if legal, they can lead to positive tests.

- Any questionable urine test may result in retesting or disqualification.

- New Athlete Prohormone Rule:
- New athletes (never competed with NFF) must be free of prohormones and other banned OTC supplements for 2 years prior to requesting to compete.
- Testing and Exemptions:
- All testing questions and therapeutic use exemption requests must be submitted 30 days before the event.
- Additional testing (urine, blood) or doctor’s documentation may be required, at the athlete’s expense.
- No documentation will be accepted at the event without prior approval.
- Any detection of a banned substance is a positive test.

Testing Questions or Therapeutic Use Exemption Request
Any questions or therapeutic use exemption requests must be submitted 30 days before the event date. All requests will be evaluated and may require additional items such as pre-event urine test, blood work, and or doctor documentation at the cost of the athlete. No documentation will be accepted at the event without a pre-approval. The presence of any banned substance in the urine, no matter how it arrived there is ruled as a positive (failure).
